Professor's son arrested after scare at Conn. university
Mon Nov 4, 2013
Oddly, by the time I read this article, I had heard several reports form the MSM alleging a man with an "assault rifle", when it now appears that the only weapon (or arguable weapon) ever seen or reported was some kind of "sword" (or something that looked like a sword, such as an umbrella).
Gunman opens fire at LAX, killing TSA worker and wounding others
Fri Nov 1, 2013
The last time I was in an airport (Portland, Oregon), I was standing in the line, waiting to go through the security screening.
American tourist is 'lucky to be alive' after suicide bomb blast at Tunisian hotel
Wed Oct 30, 2013
What a happy ending - one scumbag blown to bits without collateral damage, all because he couldn't get past a couple of hotel doormen. Makes one feel warm and fuzzy.
Girl accused of bullying 'saddened' by Florida 12-year-old's suicide
Thu Oct 17, 2013
Anytime a 12 year old kills herself, it's a tragedy, but it's also invariably the consequence of multiple factors. It is that reality which provokes my upset with the battle cry of "bullying" which inevitably gets invoked when these horrors happen.
Maryville, Missouri sex assault case: Hack group Anonymous plans 'Twitter storm'
Wed Oct 16, 2013
"The boys are politically connected"... Really? The story doesn't say that. It says that ONE of the boys was from a "prominent local family" (whatever that means). Nothing there about "political connections".
'It's very good news' Malala didn't win the Nobel Peace Prize: Pakistani Taliban
Fri Oct 11, 2013
This is precisely the kind of story Americans SHOULD be reading. Unless you know the type of people you are up against, you cannot effectively resist them (that's not just me talking, it's actually one of Sun Tzu's more famous bits of advice "On War").
Polls: Public places more blame for shutdown on GOP
Mon Oct 7, 2013
You have a President who goes on TV and, in a publicly televised hissy fit, announces that he will not negotiate at all with the House Republicans - not at all - and who then, to prove his point, allows the Government to shut down, but ONLY those parts designed to inflict maximum hurt (parks, museum …
Woman in DC chase may have thought Obama was stalking her, sources say
Fri Oct 4, 2013
Firstly, let's acknowledge the human tragedy here. I've known people with serious mental illnesses - lost a brother to it, among others. I also find that "post-partum depression", which seriously afflicted a very good friend of mine, is not given the attention it deserves.
Four people shot to death in Alabama were implicated in Tennessee child-porn case, sheriff says
Fri Oct 4, 2013
IF - and it is an important "IF", these folks really were involved in creating or disseminating child pornography, then I would tend to agree with the general sentiment expressed herein that this reflects a happy ending.
Woman shot and killed by Capitol police after chaotic chase from White House
Thu Oct 3, 2013
Uh, so what was the point of tacking on these comments about the earlier "shots fired" episode in mid-September or the shooting of Congresswoman Gifford (in Arizona) back in 2011 or the shooting at Congress in 1998? Are any of those relevant to the current case or is this just about pushing an "ant …

Is 12 too old to trick or treat?
My wife and I have been involved with disadvantaged kids for decades. Sometimes, these little rituals and celebrations are all that they have - and their need doesn't end at 12 (or 13, 14, etc.).
